My approach to teaching Pilates’ exercises
I trained as a Pilates teacher in 2002, but had already been teaching the Alexander Technique for 30 years in private lessons, to groups of people of all ages, and also as a teacher trainer.
As it takes far less time to twist, tear and strain muscles than it does to sort them out, I pay great attention in my classes as to how students carry out their exercises. I do this by careful observation and hands-on guidance where necessary. The hands-on work is extremely gentle, non-manipulative and non-invasive and guides the student to exercise safely and minimise damage to their backs and to avoid overstraining muscles.
I also encourage my students to think about the exercises at home and think about how they can bring them into their daily activities.
