Fran Robinson - My Background and Approach
My approach to working with students, pupils and counselling clients
The 5 modalities I practise are all related and follow a pathway in my own life’s journey. The Alexander Technique taught me to become more aware of physical and psychological habit patterns within myself and in other people. Wanting to explore this in greater depth I started my 2-year training in Transpersonal Counselling. A few years later I had some Painless Spinal Touch Therapy treatments and was so impressed that I decided to train to become a therapist. As time went on I wanted to do more exercise myself, and found that Pilates seemed the only system which worked with the integrity of the body and mind connection which underpins the Alexander Technique.
I have now trained in Flexercise and will be teaching Chair Based Exercise in Dorset, Somerset and Devon. There are an increasing number of elderly people in our communities and helping them become more mobile and less likely to fall and injure themselves is extremely important.
I endeavour to work in a way which enables my students, patients and clients to extend and expand their own boundaries and self-imposed limits, to become more mindful and realise how interesting and fascinating life can be. I also learn an enormous amount from everyone I work with.
- I am a senior teacher of the Alexander Technique, qualifying in 1975.
- In 1985 I founded the Italian Centre for the Alexander Technique and trained 15 teachers who are now teaching in Italy.
- In 1993 I started the Greater Manchester Centre for Alexander Studies.
- I have taught on the Eton College Choral courses and for 5 years I was the Alexander Technique teacher to the choral and organ scholars at Kings College, Cambridge.
- I have run group Alexander Technique courses at the Universities of Keele, Manchester and Bournemouth. I have also run courses for Poole Council and many colleges of further education.
- I have also taught Stress Management Courses for the University of Bournemouth and Oldham College.
- I was on the Bank of Complementary Therapists for Tameside Hospital, Cheshire.
- I founded the NEW DIRECTIONS TEACHING & TRAINING CENTRE for the Alexander Technique in Honiton, Devon
